Visuals in Science
We all do excellent research that deserves to be presented in the best possible way. We are all good at writing and talking about our findings but what about making diagrams, illustrations, and result charts? Using clear, crisp, and pedagogic images is one of the most powerful methods to explain your research.
In this workshop, Andreas will share his knowledge of making scientific drawings and answer the following questions:
- How could I make a simple yet informative image?
- What software should I use?
In this practical workshop, the objective is to learn how to create an attractive but credible scientific poster. This is a theoretical and practical workshop where you will first dissect some posters after that, we will talk about how to make an effective poster, and finally, you will examine another set of posters with your just-acquired skills. It is a visuals-only workshop, meaning we won't be talking about how to write effectively or present orally.
About the workshop leader
Andreas Dahlin is an adjunct associate professor in analytical chemistry from Uppsala University, Sweden. He has always been interested in visualizing his and his colleagues' research. In 2011 Andreas started a PhD course at Uppsala university called "Visualize your Science." The course quickly became very popular. At the beginning of 2016, Andreas decided to focus entirely on helping researchers create better images, and he quit his research career to start the company Visualize your Science AB. There are now four teachers in the company, and last year, more than 600 researchers, mainly in the Nordic countries, attended the course.
