Welcome!
GINAMO, NINA, Nord University, Gjærevollsenteret, and Artsdatabanken are pleased to invite you to a back-to-back workshop and symposium on the application and implementation of genetic indicators in biodiversity and nature monitoring, as recently accepted by the UN Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD). The two events will be organised in Trondheim on 8 and 9 May 2025.
On Thursday 8 May (GINAMO stakeholder workshop), we will invite Norwegian nature managers and policy makers to discuss and facilitate the implementation of genetic indicators into nature management and biodiversity policy.
On Friday 9 May (Ne symposium), we will focus on the science behind genetic indicators (mainly the effective population size Ne), and we will invite students and researchers interested in applied conservation genetics. Keynote speakers include Robin Waples (Northwest Fisheries Science Center, Seattle, USA) and Christina Hvilsom (Copenhagen Zoo, Denmark).
Preliminary program
Interested to join?
Both events are free, but the number of participants is restricted.
GINAMO stakeholder workshop (Thursday 8 May 2025)
Are you a professional active in nature management or biodiversity policy, or working for an institution or agency that could contribute to genetic monitoring? Then you might be interested to learn more about and possibly participate in the GINAMO stakeholder workshop. On this day, we will work with dedicated stakeholders on the implementation of Norway's new duties of monitoring and reporting genetic indicators using both DNA and non-DNA based data. Please contact us for more information.
Ne symposium (Friday 9 May 2025)
Are you a student or researcher interested in applied conservation genetics and in the relevance of the effective population size (Ne) for biodiversity and nature monitoring? Then you are most welcome to our Ne symposium. Registration is now open, and registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. To sign up, please click "Register" at the top of this page.
